The Chilham Chase 400 Weekend of Celebration
20th – 22nd May 2016
Following the success of the “The
Chilham Chase weekend” in 2013 we are thrilled to announce that “The Chilham Chase 400” will take place over the weekend of 20th-22nd May 2016.
Chilham Castle was completed in 1616,
the year of Shakespeare’s death. To commemorate both 400th anniversaries we are delighted to have been chosen to host the première of the Globe Theatre’s open-air summer season. The castle will provide the perfect back drop to their four performances of Shakespeare’s ‘The Two Gentlemen of Verona’
In addition to The Globe’s production,
on Saturday 21st a fair and a classic car display will be situated on the front lawn, a vintage clothing exhibition in the Castle's Hall and the 2.5 mile ‘Chilham Chase Race’ will take place around the park. The race is suitable for all members of the family and fancy dress is optional.
On Sunday 22nd a special Service will be
held at Chilham Church which will include a short talk by guest speaker and Shakespeare scholar Andrew Hadfield. This will be followed by a peal of bells to celebrate the birthday of Chilham Castle's
Founder, Sir Dudley Digges.
